Thinking on this issue the best work around I can think of would be an external application that would allow the user to unpack items, patterns, clothing, etc, and then edit the existing color swatches to suit their taste. Followed by repackaging the newly modded items back into the game replacing the originals. With this methodology players would be able to set up sets of colored items for those objects they use in game.
